How to Use Safety Video Download Free and Successfully

Incentives

Safety videos can be boring, and most employees know that. Your human resources department’s job should be to search out videos that will engage your employees as well as teach them about proper safety precautions. As an employer, you can use these videos in normal monthly meetings with your employees. In these instances, one option is to attach watching the video, and possibly passing a test on it, to some type of reward system. Allowing proficient employees to leave work an hour early on Friday, for instance, may be a great motivator.

Orientation

Another way to use the videos is to show them in orientation periods. Employees at this point are trying to impress their new employers, particularly if they face a probationary period. As such, they will be more likely to pay attention to the videos because they want to show that they are engaged in the workplace.

Conversation

If the videos are dry, use them sparingly. You don’t have to show an entire video, for example. You can show only portions that you believe are relevant. Try initiating conversation after the video. Let your employees' share their thoughts on the video, and they likely will learn a good deal more from watching it.

Personal Use

From a personal perspective, these videos are an excellent way to learn more about your job. The OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, puts out some free safety videos, and they are to the employee’s and employer's benefit. OSHA is the source for all government policies regarding safety issues, such as their standard precautions policy. You can determine if your workplace is following proper protocol and how you can address any problem areas. This type of information is valuable because it gives you more control over your work environment.
