Common Safety Slogans

Many of these slogans will sound familiar to most people. One of the characteristics of a lot of slogans is to incorporate rhyme or acronyms. Also, short slogans are easier to remember than long ones. Some safety slogans you may encounter include:

  • Wipe up and avoid a slip up!
  • Use your wits...use padded mitts
  • Be aware--take care
  • To avoid a scene, keep your workplace clean
  • KISS--Keep It Safe and Sound
  • Safety is as simple as ABC: Always Be Careful
  • Lifting’s a breeze when you bend at the knees
  • A spill, a slip, a hospital trip
  • Look before you leap
  • In case of injury, remember RICE--rest, ice, compress and elevate
  • Leave horseplay to horses
  • Three B's of boating: Boat safe, Boat smart, Boat sober
  • If caught in a riptide, go with the flow
  • An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
  • Protect your back; use a jack.
  • One rung too high and you could die
  • The chance taker is the accident maker
  • Night doubles traffic troubles
  • 30 Days has September--safety first, please remember

These slogans are made for a variety of places and situations, but many of them can be used in more than one instance. Slogans that are used for water safety can be used for boaters and swimmers. Safety rules that urge caution against horseplay are valid for school or for work, especially jobs that involve dangerous elements. Slogans such as “Be Aware – Take care” can apply to just about any situation.

Places You’ll Find Safety Slogans

Where will you encounter safety slogans? Many places, including:

  • Workplaces
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Laboratories
  • Recreation centers
  • Playgrounds
  • Daycare centers
  • Camps

Anywhere where safety is a primary concern for the employees, visitors or residents, you’re likely to find slogans to remind everyone that safety comes first.

Creating Your Own Slogans

Perhaps you’ll want to make up your own safety slogans if you think this will help you remember them better. They will be easier to remember if you keep them relatively short and try to incorporate rhyming or acronyms. For example, one safety slogan that’s relevant to food safety is: When in doubt, toss it out. Another slogan that utilizes acronyms is: Get in STEP—-Safety Takes Every Person. By using the first letter of each word in the slogan, you get a simple word (STEP) that completes an easy-to-remember phrase.

Families can get in on the fun by encouraging children and parents to get involved in creating safety slogans for the home. Make it interesting by holding a family contest: whoever comes up with the best slogan gets a prize, such as choosing their favorite dinner or being able to eat their favorite dessert.

Teachers can work together with principals or school administration to have students make up safety slogans for schools. This can be a school-wide or district-wide event.

Using Slogans for Safety

Safety slogans are useless if they’re not only remembered, but also followed. In workplaces where the jobs can be hazardous if not done correctly, adhering to safety rules is crucial. However, it’s just as important to practice safety at home (where the majority of accidents occur) and at school. Children will find it easier to remember a slogan if a rhyme is used, although this tactic helps adults as well. If everyone tries their best to stick to the safety rules, then home, work, school and vacations can be much safer.
