While your victim is away from his or her computer, install a new screensaver that looks just like the error screen. When they return, there will be a few moments of panic when they see the screen. The screensaver will be turned off when they move their mouse.

This one requires some planning since you’ll need access to your victim’s computer for at least 15 minutes. Get a wireless mouse and install it on your victim’s computer. Unplug their mouse but leave it on their desk so they think it still works. Hide in a place that will allow you to be in range for the wireless mouse. When they sit down to work, start moving the wireless mouse around on the palm of your hand and clicking on applications. From your victim’s perspective, it will look like their mouse is being controlled by a ghost.

This practical joke can be done in several different ways, but the most effective is to keep your barrier in the lower two feet of the doorway. Most people don’t pay attention to where their feet are going, so they’ll be surprised when they stumble over the barrier.

Attach several small fake spiders to thin string. Tape the string just above the door jam and then shut the door. Fit the spiders into the small space between the top of the door and the door jam. When your victim opens the door, the spiders will fall down and appear to be jumping at him or her. Get the video camera ready to capture their reaction.

Place Vaseline or an equally goopy substance underneath the exterior door handles of your victim’s car. When they try to open their car, they will be greeted by a mysterious icky substance all over their hand.
